  1. Desmoplasia is one of the histological criteria for malignancy. However, loose, oedematous and newly formed connective tissue may be seen in a various of non-malignant (or non-neoplastic) conditions, so it cannot be used as the only criterion. However, when a desmoplastic stroma is found, one should try to rule out the presence of a malignant tumor.
