  1. Hypoxia means “too low oxygen delivery”, whereas anoxia means “no oxygen delivery”. Hypoxia therefore refers to the state where an organ or a tissue receives too small amounts of oxygen to function appropriately, whereas anoxia refers to the state without oxygen delivered to the organ/tissue at all. Anoxia will always cause tissue death, i.e. infarction.
